Overwatch devs deep dive new Samoa map during Overwatch League Grand Finals

During the Overwatch League 2023 Grand Finals broadcast, Overwatch 2 Executive Producer Jared Neuss and Game Director Aaron Keller discussed the game’s next map launching in just a couple of weeks. You can see that segment in the video above by fast-forwarding to the 4:04:30 marks.

The new Control map, Samoa, features beach, downtown, and volcano points that players will contest on the tropical island. Samoa launches during Season 7 of Overwatch 2, coming to players on Oct. 10. More information on the season will be coming next week.

While we wait for more details, fans are already speculating that this map is tied to Mauga, a new Overwatch hero. That could be spot-on speculation, as Mauga is a Samoan word that means “mountains,” and the one image we have of the Samoan map showcases a massive mountain in the background.
