When it comes to Pokémon TV and movies, the majority of that focus has been on animated content. There have been a ton of anime episodes, animated shorts and movies, and cartoon specials, but not all that much in the way of live-action. That’s set to change in Japan in just a couple of weeks.

Pokémon Co. previously announced that they’re working on a live-action Pokémon drama that will debut on Oct. 19th, 2023. This series will air on TV Tokyo, and there have been no details on a localized release at this time. Today brings us the first trailer for this program, and you can check it out above.

This live-action Pokémon series will star Nanase Nishino as Madoka Akagi, a young woman who moves to Tokyo to work at an advertising company. Akagi ends up getting a copy of Pokémon Red from her mother, and we’ll get to see what her adventures are like as she explores the world of Pokémon.

We’ve also learned that multiple characters in the show will be based off of Pokémon. A coworker, Kageaki Hiyama is based on a young Charmander whose flame is going to disappear. Kazuchika Kogusuri, a hard-working father, is based on a Kangaskhan. Yoko Meguro is based on Ninetales and is obsessed with both love and work. Yuki Koide is based on Magikarp and is, not surprisingly, a completely useless employee. Sora Kawasawa, Madako’s son, is a little Pokémon master. Koichi Yadoya is the president of the company who’s based on Slowbro and tends to be forgetful. Finally, there’s Midori Kudo, who will be a rival for Madoka.
