Masahiro Sakurai is back with yet another installment in his game development series, and this one offers a discussion related to the Effects category.

In games, “billboards” are flat objects that always face the camera. It might be hard to picture what they are if you haven’t worked in game development before, so Sakurai is breaking them down in today’s Effects video.

There’s no doubt you’ve seen plenty of billboard effects in games over the years, especially in the earlier days of 3D gaming. That said, billboards are still used today, and can be quite effective depending on their placement.
