The missing piece of the Metroid puzzle

There was a time when Nintendo was working on bringing the Metroid franchise to the Nintendo 64. Unfortunately, that project never came to be, but it eventually led us to Metroid Prime on the GameCube, so the wait for Samus’ leap into 3D was certainly worth it. That said, we can’t help but wonder what an adventure for Samus on the N64 might have looked like.

Well, thanks to some very dedicated fans, we don’t have to wonder anymore!

Metroid super fan Luto Akino is currently working on a Nintendo 64 project using Unity 3D, and it puts Samus in a brand-new third person adventure. The game, which you can see demo footage of above, certainly nails the look of the N64, and it also expertly captures what Metroid is all about. Truth be told, this fan project already looks good enough to be an actual Nintendo title from back in the day!

There’s obviously still a long way to go on this project, but the groundwork is already there. Luto is currently working to fix an arm cannon glitch, while also adding actual enemies into the game. It’ll be quite some time until we see a finished experience, but we’re already extremely excited to see how things turn out.
