The Overwatch League as we know it is over. After six seasons of running various Overwatch competitions, Blizzard has confirmed that they’re taking things in a new direction. This info was shared in a statement with Engadget, which you can read in full below.

“We are transitioning from the Overwatch League and evolving competitive Overwatch in a new direction.. We are grateful to everyone who made OWL possible and remain focused on building our vision of a revitalized esports program. We are excited to share details with you all in the near future.”

Those who follow Overwatch 2 and the Overwatch League closely could see the writing on the wall for this announcement, but now it’s official. Now we have to hang back and see what Blizzard cooks up next for the competitive future of Overwatch 2.
