Dungeon-crawling role-playing game 'Legend of Grimrock' launching on January 15th for the Nintendo Switch
Indie game developer Almost Human Ltd. is proud to announce the arrival of their revered dungeon-crawling role-playing game classic, Legend of Grimrock, on Nintendo Switch. Scheduled for release on Nintendo eShop on January 15th, 2024.
Originally unveiled for the PC in April 2012, after about 10 months of development by the company’s four co-founders, Legend of Grimrock garnered widespread acclaim. Since its inception, the game has been ported to Mac, Linux, and iOS. A sequel, Legend of Grimrock 2, was released in 2014. With a well over 1.5 million units sold in total, both games have solidified their position as modern classics in the first-person dungeon-crawling role-playing game genre.
The Nintendo Switch port of the game preserves the original dungeon-crawling adventure while introducing an overhauled user interface. Optimized for playing with a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con pair, this version is perfect for playing on the couch or on the go.
Antti Tiihonen, one of the co-founders of Almost Human Ltd., shares insight into the decision-making process behind the port: “All of us at Almost Human have had other things to do besides Legend of Grimrock in recent years so why should we do a port of a game that’s almost 11 years old already? The idea of the port arose when our programmer, Petri Häkkinen, had a Nintendo Switch developer kit and he thought it would be a fun and educational side project to get the game running on our favorite console platform. Most of our decisions aren’t driven by business development plans or market analysis and this one was no exception since we did the project simply because it was enjoyable for us. We anticipate this release will rekindle the excitement of many of the old fans of the game and we hope some new adventurers will discover the delights of old school dungeon crawling too.”
