The Golden Globes aired last night, bringing with it a ton of Hollywood talent. Among the elite were singer/songwriters Andra Day and Jon Batiste, and they took the stage to present the Golden Globe for Best Original Song: Motion Picture.

For those who don’t remember, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was actually included as a nominee in this category. The full rundown of nominees is as follows:

  • “Barbie” — “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and Finneas
  • “Barbie” — “Dance the Night” by Caroline Ailin, Dua Lipa, Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt
  • “She Came to Me” — “Addicted to Romance” by Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa
  • “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” — “Peaches” by Jack Black, Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, Eric Osmond, and John Spiker
  • “Barbie” — “I’m Just Ken” by Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt
  • “Rustin” — “Road to Freedom” by Lenny Kravitz

We’re sad to see that “Peaches” didn’t take home the win, but it was up against some incredibly tough competition. While Billie Eilish and Finneas took home the Golden Globe for Best Original Song: Motion Picture, Mario still had a moment in the spotlight.

If you watch the clip below, you can see both Andra Day and Jon Batiste throw some love Mario’s way. We’ve actually covered Batiste’s appreciation for videogames quite a few times over the years, as the man has a deep affinity for gaming tunes and has said multiple times that they both influenced an inspire him. That topic came up once again during the Golden Globes, which led to him and Day chatting about their favorite Super Mario Bros. tune. We won’t spoil what it is, so watch the clip below to find out!
