A fan-favorite returns for one final go on Nintendo 3DS! Independent game studio WayForward, along with publisher Limited Run Games, is excited to announce that a new physical printing of the beloved video game Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse will be available to purchase starting January 26, 2024. Ordered for manufacture on the last day before North American Nintendo 3DS game card production was discontinued, this swashbuckling adventure is rated T by the ESRB and will be available exclusively via

As Metacritic’s highest-rated entry in the acclaimed Shantae series, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse takes players on a captivating quest loaded with hair-whipping action, island-hopping exploration, superb platforming, and, of course, jaw-dropping stereoscopic 3D as the heroic Shantae teams up with her nemesis, the nefarious Risky Boots, to save Sequin Land from an evil curse. Though deprived of her Half-Genie magic, Shantae embraces her inner pirate and acquires new ability-granting Pirate Gear to help her on her way as she races through haunted wastelands, stealthily escapes an ancient temple, solves puzzles, battles epic bosses, overcomes challenging labyrinths, and meets a weird and wonderful cast of characters.

This new Nintendo 3DS printing of Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is available in two versions: a standard edition (priced at $34.99) that includes the physical game and manual, and a collector’s edition (priced at $64.99) that includes the physical game, manual, reversible 18” x 24” poster, original soundtrack CD, replica Game Boy-style cartridge (for display only) with stand, Game Boy-style retro box, and three art cards, all in premium collector’s box packaging. Both editions are complete and will be ready to ship when they go on sale on January 26, 2024, at 7AM Pacific/10AM Eastern, and additional pressings will not be possible. The game content itself is identical to the previous version released by Rising Star Games in 2016.

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is the third title in the multi-million-selling Shantae series, which first launched in 2002 on Game Boy Color. A previously unreleased Shantae game, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, will be offered later in 2024.
