Just yesterday, Nintendo announced that at 4pm PDT on April 8, 2024, online play and other functionality that uses online communication will end for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U software. This also includes online co-operative play, internet rankings, and data distribution. Unfortunately, one 3DS title isn’t even going to make it to that date, as things are ending early.

Dedicated fans of Steel Diver: Sub Wars have already been going through a tough time, as the game has been sitting in ‘Emergency Maintenance’ mode since Sept. 2023. While many were hoping things would work out, the impending shutdown of online play for Wii U and 3DS means that the closure of Steel Diver: Sub Wars has been moved up.

Nintendo has revealed that Steel Diver: Sub Wars is calling it quits on Feb. 14th, 2024. The Big N was apparently working on a fix for an issue the game was suffering from, but as they haven’t been able to come up with a solution, they’re going to pull the plug early. Not exactly the way you want to see a game go out, but at least Nintendo was forthcoming about the situation.
