Happy Lunar New Year! The Pokémon GO Lunar New Year event is happening once again, and it’s kicking off quite soon. Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed officially starts Monday, February 5, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. and runs to Sunday, February 11, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time. You can get a complete breakdown of everything this event entails below.
Drampa, the Placid Pokémon, will make its Pokémon GO debut! If you’re lucky, you may encounter a Shiny one!
Event Bonuses
- Increased chance for Lucky Pokémon in trades.
- Increased chance to become Lucky Friends.
- Additional Candy for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws.
- Increased chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws.

For US$2.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to access event-exclusive Timed Research. Timed Research rewards include the following.
- Stardust, XP, and two Lucky Eggs
- Encounters with event-themed Pokémon
Trainers will be able to purchase and gift tickets to any of their Pokémon GO friends that they have achieved a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher with. Please note that purchases—including those made for other Trainers—are non-refundable (subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service). Tickets cannot be purchased with PokéCoins.
Please note that Timed Research expires. The tasks associated with this Timed Research must be completed and their rewards must be claimed before Sunday, February 11, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time.
A Global Challenge will take place throughout the event! Work with Trainers around the world to throw 1,000,000,000 Nice Throws to unlock the bonuses below for all Trainers to enjoy for the remainder of the event! As part of the Global Challenge rewards, festive fireworks will also light up the skies!
Evolve certain Pokémon during the event to get a Pokémon that knows a featured attack!
