Nintendo has announced that Contra: Operation Galuga is coming to Switch on March 12th, 2024. A demo will be made available on the Switch eShop today.

Contra: Operation Galuga is a thorough reimagining of the classic run ā€˜nā€™ gun NES/arcade game from the 1980s, featuring timeless gameplay, iconic weapons, modern graphics and sound, new stages, new enemies and bosses, new play mechanics, and intense co-op combat for up to two players in Story Mode or four players in Arcade Mode!

Take control of elite Contra commandos Bill Rizer and Lance Bean as they battle the Red Falcon terrorist group, which has turned the once-peaceful Galuga Islands into an all-out warzone where the fate of mankind hangs in the balance.

Yikes, I tried the demo, and it runs absolutely *horrendous* on Switch. 30fps cap and really unstable on top of that. I've completely lost faith in WayForward on Switch. Their last several games have had terrible performance on the platform, whereas all their earlier Switch releases were near flawless experiences. They've clearly given up on Switch, and that is a darn shame.
