When it comes to the Switch Joy-Con, joystick drifting is a major issue for many. The situation got so bad that Nintendo had to open a repairs/replacement program in multiple territories, North America included. This has caused immense frustration for countless Switch owners.

When it comes to the Switch Pro Controller, the complaints of joystick drift are pretty much non-existent. There are a handful of cases here and there, but by and large, it’s within the margin of error you’d expect on most controllers. Still, one company thinks they can do better by offering a Pro-style Switch controller that’ll never have drift issues.

The GuliKit KingKong 2 Pro Controller uses new patented electromagnet stick technology, which they say will stave off joystick drift forever. While that’s the $70 controller’s biggest selling point, there are a number of other fancy features included:

  • New Patented Buttons With Conductive Rubber Feel
  • Supports Switch Console Wake-up
  • Supports wired and wireless play
  • Built-in rechargeable lithium battery can run for up to 25 hours on a full charge
  • Exclusive, Patented with no Dead Zone
  • amiibo support
  • gyroscope support
  • full vibration feedback

If this seems like a must-have controller to you, you can pick one up via Amazon.

“Exclusive, Patented with no Dead Zone”

I don’t believe it. Every single controller with a joy-stick has suffered drift. Some more that others.

Looks like a nice controller but I’d stick with official Pro Controller.

I think part of the reason for Joy-Con drift is down to their small size. I don't remember drift on GameCube, Wii or Wii U analogue sticks. Or the various Pro controllers right up to and including the Switch.

Nintendo could make larger Joy-Cons, but the whole point of their small un-ergonomic is that they slot on either side of the Switch. They could make a Switch Pro XL and have them for that, but I don't know if Nintendo will do that. I think they're determined to see out the Switch lifecycle with the originals as the de facto choice regardless.

Next generation though, I would bet or I would hope they use larger analogue sticks and buttons. I've always hated the Joy-Cons, since day 1. I think they're awful, Nintendo have always made great controllers, but these are garbage in my opinion. Their small size plays a big part in that, and that's before the drift issue. And what's worse, these are Nintendo's most expensive standard controller. Owning a Pro Controller is a must, but it's an added expense.
