Boundary Break is back with another deep dive into what’s sitting just outside the camera’s view in various video games. This time around, Boundary Break once again turns its focus to a Nintendo game, and it’s one that broke the series open to worldwide appeal.

Fire Emblem has been around since the days of the Famicom, and Nintendo kept the franchise Japan-only for decades. It wasn’t until 2003 that those in the West would get their first taste of the series through Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. While that was a big moment no doubt, it would take another decade for Fire Emblem to truly break through.

Fast-forward to 2012 and we get Fire Emblem Awakening for 3DS, which would arrive in 2013 in the West. This was the installment that managed to cultivate a major following outside of Japan, propelling the series to the astronomical heights it enjoys nowadays. That makes it the perfect game to dive back into and pick apart from a technical perspective!

Check out the latest episode of Boundary Break above to see Fire Emblem Awakening in all sorts of ways you were never meant to. The camera’s going to break out of its box and travel behind-the-scenes to show you the technical wizardry Nintendo employed to craft this unforgettable installment in the long-running franchise.
