Nintendo has finally confirmed something we all knew was going to happen. None other than Shigeru Miyamoto has announced that another Super Mario Bros. animated movie is in the works, and Nintendo is once again teaming with Illumination to make it happen.

Nintendo has confirmed that the same team from the first film is involved here as well, and they’ve even locked in a release date. Fans can look forward to this new animated Mario movie coming to theaters on April 3rd, 2026 in most regions. There will be a handful of areas where the movie will see release on a different date, but still in April 2026.

As for specifics on the film itself, Nintendo remained rather tight-lipped. Miyamoto did say that they’re looking into broadening Mario’s world further, and that the story would be bright and fun. That’s pretty much all the details we have to go on for now.

UPDATE: Today, Nintendo has confirmed that the Super Mario Bros. movie animated sequel is going to see release in Japan on April 24th, 2026. No new details on the film itself were shared.

Cool. I look forward to this. I really enjoyed the first one. Take in the fact that Illumination have a good working environment and Chris Melandadri is very opposed to the use of AI replacing actors and staff, it sounds like everyone's a winner

Looking forward to it. I hope it's one of those sequels that exceeds expectations.

I think with the groundwork laid for Mario's cinematic adventures, the sequel has room to really push boundaries and explore some fun bits of Mario history. Hopefully that's what we see!

Bowser Jr. or the Koopalings?

Neither, The Broodals.

I loved the first one, can’t wait to see where they take it! If the post-credits scene is any indication (I don’t think I need to worry about spoilers at this point right?)…we should be seeing Yoshi.

I have no idea why so many "critics" were shitting on the 2023 Mario movie. It was a blast. I smiled from beginning to end and just had a great time. My first 4K film even.
Yeah, sure the pacing was a it swift here and there, but they couldn't make 5 hour movie either.

Update says 2024. Unless we have to take a DeLorean to watch it!
