Masahiro Sakurai is back with another installment in his game development video series. Today, instead of offering insight into how games are made, Sakurai dives into the “Grab Bag” category for a bit of reflection.

Sakurai spends this entire episode talking about his approach to games and other forms of media from a consumer’s standpoint. Sakurai says he’s one that likes to go in with a completely clean slate, meaning he wants to know as little as possible about a game when he fires it up.

It’s obviously impossible to go in 100% blind on anything, as you have to know it exists to interact with it! That said, once you know about a game, movie or TV show, you can skip out on subsequent trailers, promotional materials, interviews and so on to keep the experience as pristine as possible. It’s not easy to do in the age of the internet, but it can really heighten your experience!
