Every horror franchise has its icon. People see Friday the 13th movies for Jason, Halloween movies for Michael Myers, Nightmare on Elm Street for Freddy, and so on. When it comes to the Evil Dead franchise, people want to see Ash front-and-center.

Saber Interactive knew Evil Dead: The Game had to have Ash in it, but they were worried people would only want to play as Ash. That’s why the team put in a lot of effort to make other characters equally as enticing. Saber Interactive’s Tim Willits shared comments on these concerns in an interview with Game Informer.

“That was our number one fear when we started, that everyone would play Ash. There are so many other characters that have cool stuff. I mean, you saw yesterday you need a Cheryl on your team; she may be a little OP [overpowered], to be honest. You need a Pablo to drop in those amulets. So I’m not worried about people only playing Ash anymore. But that was a concern that we had.”

Most fans will get to see how those other characters shape up soon enough, as Evil Dead: The Game launches on every platform but Switch tomorrow. We’re still waiting on release date info for the Switch version, which hopefully won’t be too far off.
