Just last week, Square Enix shared a trailer for the upcoming SaGa Emerald Beyond that highlighted Siugnas, a songstress mech who lost her singing voice and body. In a follow-up video today, we get to learn a bit more about why the mech race is making their way back to the Saga franchise.

The video above features SaGa Franchise General Director Akitoshi Kawazu and Localization Director Neil Broadley talking about the return of mechs, as the race wasn’t present in SaGa Scarlet Grace. Kawazu said this decision was based on the team’s desire to offer a variety of gameplay opportunities and story aspects.

In our previous game, SaGa Scarlet Grace, players were only able to control human characters. For this game, we wanted players to experience a variety of races, and of course that includes mechs with their various defining features. It goes without saying that they come with their own mech-specific gameplay and story elements. In putting mechs in the game, we would be remiss not to include a mech protagonist as well.
