In an exclusive from Insider Gaming, the publication delves deep on AEW Fight Forever’s trouble development and rocky updates since release.

Originally announced in 2020, the excitement from wrestling fans quickly turned to disappointment as details emerged about limited features, an outdated roster, and numerous bugs upon release. One source tells Insider Gaming that since the game was announced so early, “it put even more pressure on the developers to not only deliver something great, but deliver something faster than what it should’ve been”, also stating that this decision nearly “killed the game from the start”.

The game’s development was marred by budget issues, with costs reaching 1.5 to 2 times the original estimate, leading to cut features and delayed updates. Another source stated that “they (AEW) knew they were going to lose money on this game, but there was a lot of pressure to make money back solely because of how overbudget the game went.”

Despite regular DLC updates since release, the game’s future remains uncertain, with questions about AEW’s partnership with developer Yuke’s and the possibility of a sequel. Trios matches and other features may have to wait for future iterations, and the decision on who will develop any future games is still up in the air.
