Fortnite is one of the biggest games in the world right now and it’s only getting bigger. Disney and Epic have teamed up for a major collaboration in the future, but a recent example of Fortnite’s far reach is with the LEGO collab.

LEGO Fortnite launched a few months back, and it ushered in a whole new way to play in Fortnite. While many think of battle royale action with Fortnite, LEGO Fortnite now offers players a Minecraft-like experience with plenty of its own wrinkles and features. With millions of players logging in every month to enjoy some LEGO Fortnite fun, it seems like the expansion has been a massive hit.

LEGO Fortnite is here to stay, but how on earth did Epic and LEGO come together in the first place to make this happen? In an interview with Games Industry, Kari Vinther Nielsen, Head of Play & Creator Growth at Lego Game, explained why the collab made perfect sense.

“The vision for the two companies is very similar. I think Epic Games is a leader when it has to do with digital play, whereas we [Lego] are a leader when it has to do with physical play, so we’re building really nicely on top of each other’s capabilities.

We’re excited to see what the creators will do with [Lego UEFN tools] because they’re going to do things that we hadn’t thought of ourselves. If you look at our communities they’re amazing at leveraging what our brain can do, and the system in play, for endless opportunities. That’s what I’m expecting to see, like, I’m going to see things that I haven’t thought I would see. That’s the intent here, it is to really learn and evolve what we do within Fortnite.”
