Cocoon getting physical Switch release, vinyl soundtrack

Publisher iam8bit have announced that they’re giving Cocoon a physical Switch release along with a vinyl soundtrack. Pre-orders for both items go live on May 23rd, 2024.

Cocoon is nothing short of a masterclass of game design, a mind-bending adventure set across worlds within worlds that challenges the player to think both laterally and creatively. Designer Jeppe Carlsen (lead gameplay designer of LIMBO & INSIDE) stretches the core mechanic of leaping from world to world to its absolute limits, crafting puzzles with sublime solutions that deftly run the gamut from “Ah Ha!” to “No Way?” to “Of Course!”, all while conveying a beautiful silent narrative and evoking visions of a techno-organic future that would make H.R. Giger blush.

It’s the kind of game that students of design will be studying for years to come. Its meticulous craft is something to be celebrated, and that’s just what we at iam8bit have teamed up with Geometric Interactive and Annapurna Interactive to do.

This is the Cocoon Collector’s Edition. In addition to the game, complete on disc/cartridge, you’ll receive a 3” laser-etched crystal orb light, complete with its own activator pedestal. Custom-built to match the game’s titular orbs, it’s the perfect fandom-flaunting piece to display on your desk or bookshelf.

Also included is a 11”x17”double-sided poster with all new, original art from Cocoon Art Director/Lead Artist Erwin Kho, celebrating the unique look & feel of the game’s wordless world. Plus: 5 Orb art cards, one for each of Cocoon’s unforgettable realms. And of course, no iam8bit Collector’s Edition would be complete without exclusive bespoke cover art. That’s why they tapped Kho to craft a brand-new piece to adorn the game’s box, too.

iam8bit collaborated with Geometric Interactive and Annapurna Interactive to also bring Cocoon’s irreplicable auditory journey to wax, just for you. This is the Cocoon Vinyl Soundtrack, a must-have for any serious video game vinyl collector. Composer Jakob Schmid has arranged key elements from the game’s unique generative in-game music to form a coherent musical experience — an arranged soundtrack that paints a complete portrait of Cocoon’s music, pressed on classic black vinyl.

iam8bit worked with the game’s art director/lead artist Erwin Kho to capture the indescribable Cocoon aesthetic for the all-new, all-original album art. Kho crafted a piece that’s sure to stand out on your record shelf as a one-of-a-kind.
