Masahiro Sakurai is back with yet another installment in his game development video series, and today’s feature falls into the “Audio” category.

According to Sakurai, when composing a piece of music, sometimes the perfect song to fit your vision already exists. This can be a great help, but also presents a potential pitfall—so be careful when referencing someone else’s work.

You may have heard that there’s nothing truly original out there. Every piece of art we create is an amalgamation of what we’ve experienced in our lives. The key is to make sure you pay tribute and build upon what’s come before, rather than just take what you like and try to repackage it.
