Dragon Quest launched on May 27th, 1986, which means the franchise is celebrating its anniversary over in Japan. In honor of the occasion, series creator Yuji Horii has shared a special message with fans. You can read a full translation of the message below, courtesy of Gematsu.

Hello everyone! Yuji Horii here. Right now I’m at Dragon Quest Island.

Dragon Quest Island is a playable RPG attraction that brings the world of Dragon Quest to life through a mixture of real and digital experiences. Unfortunately, it was raining on the day we visited…

Thanks to all our fans, the attraction is celebrating its first anniversary. I’m really pleased that so many of you have come to take part in it. And to all those who are thinking of making the trip, you’ll be given a warm welcome on Awaji Island, the place where I grew up. It’s a great place to visit, even on rainy days like today.

Today is May 27, also known as Dragon Quest Day. And this year, it’s the 36th birthday of the Dragon Quest series. We couldn’t have made it this far without the support of our fans. I’m very grateful to you all.

In 2022, it will also be the 10th anniversary of the launch of Dragon Quest X. We have a lot of plans to mark the occasion in the works, so I hope you all look forward to celebrating with us.

We’re also going to be releasing a lot of new Dragon Quest titles this year. Work is already well underway on Dragon Quest X Offline and Dragon Quest Treasures.

And the mobile version of Dragon Quest Builders is ready to go. It should be available to download from app stores very soon, so please take a look. Or for more information about the game, head to our official site.

We’re working hard on building Dragon Quest XII, but there’ll be plenty more Dragon Quest to tide you over until it’s finished.

Thank you all for supporting the Dragon Quest series for 36 years, from me, Yuji Horii. Bye for now!
