This one needs a bit of setup, so bare with us…

Star Fox Adventures saw release on the GameCube decades ago, but it actually started life on the N64 as Dinosaur Planet. At that time, RARE was working on a wholly original adventure game for the N64, but Nintendo stepped in to offer them the Star Fox IP for the project. RARE agreed to the offer, and Dinosaur Planet transitioned to Star Fox Adventures.

Fast-forward to 2022, and Star Fox Adventures lives on with a fan-made sequel, Star Fox Conquest. This continues the idea of Star Fox Adventures, but if that game never moved from the N64 to GameCube. Furthermore, it uses The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as a base, since it’s a ROM hack of that game.

The end result is a title that looks like Dinosaur Planet/Star Fox Adventures, but plays closer to Ocarina of Time! It’s certainly an amalgamation of ideas, but it seems to have worked out in the game’s favor, as it looks quite fun. The hack hasn’t released yet, but it’s clearly very far along, and according to the trailer, it’ll be out sometime this year.

Unfortunately, as you might expect, this is the kind of project Nintendo loves to swoop in and destroy. Let’s see how long it is before Nintendo inevitably has this one yanked from existence.
