Minecraft Legends was teased back in 2018

Badger, badger, badger, badger...

Minecraft Legends, an action-strategy spin-off title, was just revealed for Switch a few days ago. Not surprisingly, the game has been in development for quite some time now. The project started life all the way back in 2018, but it turns out Mojang teased the upcoming title soon after its inception.

Dennis Ries, an executive producer at Mojang, has revealed that a tease for Minecraft Legends was shown during Minecon 2018. During that presentation, another Mojang dev appeared on screen wearing a shirt with a badger on it. You can see that shirt below.

What does that have to do with Minecraft Legends? Well, the game has started development at that point with Blackbird Interactive, but a final name hadn’t been chosen. At this point in time, Minecraft Legends only had a codename; Badger.

Since fans had no real way of knowing an unannounced project’s codename at the time, it was pretty safe to wear a badger shirt and not have anyone figure out details on Minecraft Legends! Just funny to think the dev team went out of their way years ago to sneak in this little nod.
