The latest update for Pokémon GO is one of the few that doesn’t introduce something new. Instead, it removes support for the game completely on select devices.

Pokémon GO has now ended support for devices running on Android 6, “Marshmallow,” as of release version 241. If you happen to have a device running that OS, you’re going to have to update to restore access.

As to why this decision was made, Niantic says that Android 6, “Marshmallow,” was initially released quite some time ago, and there have been some major improvements to the Android operating systems since. By removing support for Android 6, Niantic is able to streamline their development process and focus resources on supporting newer operating systems and technologies.
