Dr. Mario, Bird & Beans clones pop up for the Playdate

Nintendo isn't going to like these...

The Playdate is a pretty interesting portable that includes a directional pad, buttons, and most importantly, a crank! Developers have been using that crank to create some pretty unique experiences, but they’ve also been pilfering Nintendo’s catalog for some unofficial ports.

The the video above, you can see what some indie devs have been working on. The game is very much inspired by Dr. Mario, and even includes a similar design to the graphics. The only real change in this version is the game’s name!

Then there’s Bird & Beans, which is a series of games that has been included as Easter eggs in the WarioWare franchise for years now. The clone on the Playdate is even more eggrigious, and seems to be a 1:1 port of Nintendo’s work.

It’ll be interesting to see if Nintendo goes after these games, as they’re not available on an official storefront. I guess we’ll find out in the coming weeks!

Oh that Birds and Beans port is going to be hit hard. No way it gets away from Nintendo.

It already did. It was taken down within an hour of the video going live.
