Super Mario movie is 3/4 completed, producer praises Chris Pratt's Mario
April can't get here soon enough
The Super Mario movie from Illumination was supposed to be out this year, but it ended up getting delayed to April 7th, 2023. Making that wait even worse is the fact that we haven’t seen a single trailer or stills from the film, but at least today brings us some information from the movie’s producer, Chris Meledandri.
In an interview with Variety, Meledandri reveals that the film is about three-quarters done. This mention came up during a discussion about voice acting, so it’s not clear whether the film as a whole is that far along, or just the voice acting. Either way, at least we know some serious progress has been made since the last check-in.
Meledandri also spoke about Chris Pratt stepping into the role of Mario, and it seems things are coming together nicely. You can see Meledandri’s full comments below.
“Chris was cast because we felt he could give a great performance as Mario. And now that we’ve done about 15 recording sessions, and the movie is three-quarters done, I sit here and say that I love his performance as Mario. …he’s given such a strong performance.”
Meledandri did make specific mention of Mario’s voice and the Italian accent, which many were wondering about when it comes to Pratt’s work. Meledandri says he thinks everything is “gonna be just fine,” and that his own Italian-American heritage led to him picking Pratt without worrying about offending Italians or Italian Americans.
I’m more excited to hear Charlie Days performance.
I'm so excited for this movie. I don't understand why people are down on the casting. Charlie Day is hilarious in Always Sunny, Chris Pratt is hilarious in Parks and Rec. Seth Rogan, Jack Black, and Keegan-Michael Key are hilarious in everything.
