BitSummit, the pioneering indie games showcase that exemplifies Japan’s creative spirit, is back in the game with its first public in-person, weekend-long event since the beginning of the pandemic.

BitSummit X-Roads (pronounced “crossroads”) takes place August 6th and 7th, 2022, and the first day of the event (Saturday) is limited to industry professionals, while the second (Sunday) is open to the public. Additionally, BitSummit announces the return of sponsor-supported awards alongside ticket sales for the event, which are available starting now.

Four sponsors will hand-select and bestow awards to this year’s brightest and best independently developed games. Long-time BitSummit supporter and champion of independent game developers, Sony Interactive Entertainment, will offer a PlayStation 5 console to the winner of the PlayStation Award. New indie game publisher, Shueisha, pledges a 200,000 yen prize to the winner of the Shueisha Game Creators CAMP Award, while Shogakukan will include a page in its monthly magazine featuring the winner of the CoroCoro Comic Award. Meanwhile, leading instant noodle giant, Nissin, will select the winner of the prestigious Cup Noodle Award. First-time BitSummit supporter, Xsolla, has also pledged $10,000 for The BitSummit Jury to distribute among the Official Game Award Winners of the 2022 show.

Nintendo, Cygames, Devolver Digital, Raw Fury, Thunderful Games, Microsoft Japan, Inti Creates, and many more return in sponsorship roles for BitSummit X-Roads.

General admission tickets and business tickets are available for sale starting today. BitSummit opens its doors to local and visiting indie game enthusiasts for the first time since 2019 and will enforce strict COVID restrictions and safety measures to ensure a safe and secure environment for all exhibitors, developers, and guests.
