I was interested in Persona 5, but it coming to gamepass beat Nintendo to the punch
VERY solid Direct!
My top 3:
Megaman Battle Network Collection was a nice addition!
I thought that was very disappointing overall. Especially in terms of quality new game announcements. Return to Monkey Island was probably the best for me. But it's not exactly a mammoth game.
The biggest announcement was the Persona games. Persona 5 Royal is 2 years old, 6 really for the base game. The other 2 are over a decade old. Atlus will be asking us for €60. You can buy the game physically on PS4 for less than half that. It's been free on PS Plus Collection. Game pass are getting it for free.
Sonic Frontiers is new and big. It looks good in the trailer, hopefully it ends up that way in the final product. I wish there were more new big games like that from publishers.
So on the one hand, I'm really happy to see games like NieR:Automata and Persona 5 Royal coming to the switch. For the folks who are exclusive to Nintendo hardware, I'm glad they now get a chance to play these really amazing games.
However, on the other hand, I'm someone who has access to multiple platforms. A lot of this direct was a wash for me. Monkey Island is very exciting to see, but I would prefer to play with a mouse and keyboard, just as I did with the older titles. HARVESTELLA looks like a wonderful new Stardew/Rune Factory type game. But that's already been announced for PC. Dragon Quest Treasures and Mario Rabbids 2 seem to be the only Switch exclusives that are actually interesting to me.
Ultimately, I'm really just looking forward to the next true Nintendo Direct.
Pretty beefy for a mini direct. Gotta say it was better than I thought it would be. The persona games, nier automata and sparks of hope are guaranteed to be getting play time. I'd give the direct a 4 out of 5.
