Digital Schoolhouse is a non-profit program run in collaboration with Nintendo UK that uses play-based learning to engage the next generation of pupils and teachers with the Computing curriculum. Digital Schoolhouse is delivered by the UK games industry trade body Ukie and is backed by the video games industry and government.

Next up on the Digital Schoolhouse agenda is the Festival of Play, a brand new computing conference sponsored by Electronic Arts. This event takes place on Wednesday 13th July at HOST Salford with the aim of bringing STEAM skills to life through the power of play.

The conference, which will play host to nearly 200 school children aged between 8 and 15 at HOST Salford, brings together great games, inspiring names and the brightest brains from the industry to spark imaginations and set kids on the path to creative computing success.

In particular, the Festival of Play will provide kids with the following:

  • An epic Play to Learn workshop featuring EA SPORTS™ FIFA, with the team from education programme Everfi teaching kids about teamwork and communication skills.
  • Inspiring careers talks and demos, including a run-through of award-winning game making tool Dreams from Peter Field of Media Molecule and an inspirational talk about the making of Lego: Star Wars by Knutsford based TT.
  • A game design jam from the team at mayamada, who’ll also be showcasing their amazing inclusive Do I Look Like a Gamer? Campaign.
  • A range of great games to play on the day from the likes of Kwalee, Team 17 and TT Games.
