UPDATE: A Mediatonic rep has said the following about this situation.

“What is happening in the game is not intended and we are actively fixing it. The customer service response was also not acceptable and we will offer a make good for all affected.”

You can see our original post on the matter below.

That response certainly comes across a bit cold/harsh, and is pretty surprising overall. Mediatonic is yet to state that there’s an issue or make any comments on refunding players hit with this problem. In other words, you better be extra careful when browsing cosmetics in the Fall Guys shop, as you might end up with a purchase you didn’t want!

Fall Guys, much like other free-to-play titles, includes a shop where you can spend real-world money on virtual items. This includes a number of different customization elements, and all of them are available to preview before purchase. Well, at least that’s how things are supposed to be.

A rash of players has come forward to state that when they hopped into the Fall Guys store to preview a cosmetic, the game ended up completing a purchase instead of previewing the item. This has resulted in people spending money where they had no intention to. This is definitely a worrying issue, but perhaps even more worrying is the response from developer Mediatonic.

When one player reached out to Mediatonic to complain about the issue, Mediatonic responded with the following:

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply.

Please let me correct something from your response.

You have stated that this is a “bugged purchase” and a “known issue”. Neither of these things is the case.

The purchase was made by you, not a bug. Whether it was intentional or not, this is still the case.

This is not a “known issue” because it is not an issue. Items cannot be bought automatically by the system, they always require input from the player. Again, whether accidental or not, you made this input and purchased the item.

As per our EULA, which you agreed to, all purchases are final and will not be refunded.

I apologize for any confusion this may have caused, and hope that I have cleared this up for you.

Kind regards,

Steve
