When it comes to the site itself, we'll certainly never censor any comments. While I may disagree with many comments/sentiments, so long as they stay within the comment guidelines, they have every right to exist.
On the podcast, I have to handle things a bit differently. When a comment comes up like the one you're referring to, I know reading it will end up derailing the podcast, taking us into a big political discussion. These discussions are extremely important to have and should be discussed, but I know our podcast crew isn't anywhere near the level necessary to discuss the minutia of these issues. Also, while we slip into some slight discussions of these nature from time to time, I also know going into lengthy discussions about them on our show would be doing these extremely important topics a disservice. I hope that all makes sense.
Finally, if I were to discuss these topics at length and with my limited knowledge, I would want to do them justice and show respect by covering them through a completely separate podcast focused on these issues. That's not anything I have planned, but I just wanted to be clear on the matter.
All that said, I could have handled this situation better. Instead of just skipping, I could have referenced the comment and pointed people to it to go discuss. I'll make a point to do that going forward should this situation arise again.

1y agoI notice you're not reading the most upvoted comments for some of the spicier articles but instead read the ones that align with a particular viewpoint even if they aren't the most upvoted.
You shouldn't cherry pick like that.
I totally disagree, he should pick all the cherries he wants! (Thanks for cherry picking RMC!)

1y agoI thought you might have forgotten about the podcast this weekend. Nah, that's not possible, but I was wondering what was going on.

1y agoRMC has always ignored argumentative comments. It should be obvious because every time he realizes he's reading one, he stops. And in those spicier stories, the most upvoted comment is almost always one of those.
And most upvoted comment doesn't mean he is obligated to read it.

1y agoI would like Kernal to know that I noticed the Smash logo in the shine of George's head. Masterful touch!
That's fair. You do what you feel is best, I'm sure it's tough being so considerate all the time but I appreciate it.
