Earlier this week, Nintendo announced that the Wii U and 3DS eShops will be closed for new business on March 27th, 2023. Customers will still be able to hop on these shops and redownload previously-purchased games after this date, but anyone trying to make a fresh purchase will be out of luck.

Following that news, Nintendo Europe announced that Fire Emblem Fates will be yanked for purchase on the 3DS eShop starting Feb. 28th, 2022, one month earlier than the general shop closure. No reason for this removal was given. Nintendo also mentioned that DLC for Fire Emblem Fates, including story paths accessible after the completion of Chapter 6, will still be available until March 27th, 2022.

We said we’d reach out to Nintendo America for comment on this matter to see if Fire Emblem Fates would also disappear from the NA 3DS eShop on Feb. 28th, 2022. Nintendo has shared a comment with us, and the situation is different in North America.

For our region, the game will remain in Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS until March 27, 2023, the point at which it will no longer be possible to purchase any software.

[Nintendo spokesperson]

We’re still not sure why Fire Emblem Fates will disappear from the 3DS eShop in Europe a month before the shop’s closure, but here in North America, the game will remain available for purchase until day/date of the eShop’s shutdown.

You might want to change the title to 2023 instead of 2022.
