The Pokémon Company has revealed new information on Generation 9, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, in a Pokémon Presents stream. The presentation also featured updates on other Pokémon apps and video games. You can read a complete recap for the live-stream below!

  • Pokémon Scarlet/Violet lets you ride across Paldea on Miraidon and Koraidon. These Pokémon can change forms as needed to help you drive, float, and fly.
  • Pokémon Scarlet/Violet will feature a new form of Wooper
  • Pokémon Scarlet/Violet are reconfirmed to be open-world RPGs
  • there are three stories, with one about familiar gym battles that you can take on in no specific battle
  • the other two stories have surprises and discoveries
  • Clavell is the director of the academy you attend, and Jacq is your homeroom teacher, Nemona is your battle friend, Arven is an upper-classmen, Penny is a shy student in your grade, Grusha is a gym leader
  • Fidough are squishy Pokémon
  • Cetitan has a large body and a big horn
  • the Terastalize phenomenon makes Pokémon shine like gems and all Pokémon in the region have this ability. Terastalizing will boost the type and makes moves stronger
  • some Pokémon will change type when they Terastalize
  • Tera Raid battles can be played in 4-player and these battles let you attack/heal when you want without waiting for allies

I do wonder how open this open world will be. It’ll be interesting to see how they pull it off.
This games battle gimmick looks less obnoxious compared to Dynamaxing. The type change being dependent on the Pokémon “tera type” will be interesting and lead to grinding for that perfect combo.
