Return to Monkey Island is less than a week away, and fans are finding it quite hard to wait for the game’s launch. It’s been a long time since Guybrush Threepwood has been on an adventure, and his latest outing looks like it could be one of the best yet!

While there’s been plenty of excitement surrounding Return to Monkey Island, there’s also been some anger from a small, yet vocal group of players. Those people were quite miffed with the visual approach in Return to Monkey Island, which uses a unique art style. According to a Lucasfilm feature with co-creator Ron Gilbert, the plan was to shock players all along.

“Every game has been a modern Monkey Island when it was released. I wanted the art to be something that would shock you a little bit. ‘Oh, that’s not what I expected.’ But hopefully you still find it interesting and fabulous. I think that’s why I went back to Rex and remembered his fanart because it caught my attention.”

Oh it shocked people alright, not in a good way for quite a number of people. There's no need to be abusive about it though.
