These things are popping up everywhere!
Looks like it’s the East Coast’s turn for Super Nintendo World, and there’s not much longer to wait! Next year, as a part of Universal Studios Orlando’s “Epic Universe” Expansion, Nintendo will be sharing a space with a few other planned park experiences.
The tweet above shares a few pieces of concept art as to what we may expect to see at this new park. There’s not much information on if this park will contain any unique portions when compared to the other parks, but it seems as if it will at least feature both Mario and Donkey Kong experiences similar to other parks.

BS-X: The Town Whose Name Was Stolen's Creator Expressed Interest In A Live-Action Adaptation In Newly Translated 1995 Interview
The next Last of Us?
In today’s world, it’s not uncommon for games to follow the “games as a service” model, for better or for worse. While to some it may seem like a more recent trend, we got a taste of what was to come back in the 90’s with the Stellaview.
For the time, the stellaview was certainly a unique concept, as it allowed gamers to receive real-time updates to shake up games in interesting ways. One game in particular used this feature to tell a story featuring mysteries in a small town. BS-X: The Town Whose Name Was Stolen is similar in many regards to many recently released games, in which its story unfolded in real-time, with each update progressing the story.
Very recently the people over at Time Extension were able to translate an old article with the game’s creator, Yusuke Akamatsu. In it, he expressed interest in his game possibly receiving a live-action adaptation.
Q. To close with, please say a few words about your passion for this project.
Akamatsu: I’d love to see fans get so into the experience that they do cosplay or make doujinshi. I’d like them to be able to enjoy it with the same feeling they would as if they were watching a trendy TV drama. I’d certainly have no complaints if it got turned into a live-action show and became a much-discussed work like Twin Peaks.
Strangely enough, this is another way this game was quite ahead of it’s time, as video game adaptations to that scale were unheard of. It’s a shame the game was never completed, as Akamatsu was clearly very passionate about the project. Perhaps one day in our age of returning to the past, their vision can be completed, probably without the stellaview, however.

Splatoon 3's Side Order DLC Gets New Trailer Along With A Feb. 22nd Release Date
Chaos may have won the game, but Order won the dlc!
In a bit of a surprise announcement, we finally have a release date for Splatoon 3’s Side Order expansion! And even better, its set to release in less than a month, on February 22nd!
There is still a good amount of mystery surrounding this expansion, but it seems to take place in some world quite different from the Splatoon 3 we are used to… Perhaps related to the loser of Splatoon 2’s final splatfest, Team Order? Time will only tell, and thankfully it’s not much of a wait!
Universal Japan's Upcoming Donkey Kong Rail-Jumping Ride Tech Detailed
Its finally here, performing for you
We’ve known for a while that Universal Studios Japan would be expanding into Donkey Kong’s Jungle, but outside of some concept art, we didn’t know a lot. However, we now know a little bit about one of the upcoming rides.
Ripped straight out of the Donkey Kong Country games, one of the new minecart-coasters will involve broken tracks that riders will “jump” over! Of course, the ride doesn’t actually do this, instead relying on a secret track below the visible track that allows the minecart to perform these stunts.
The video above breaks down how this works, but is only avaliable in German. If you (like me) might prefer an English version, check out this Gizmodo Article for a thorough breakdown of the ride to come!

In possibly one of the strangest things to appear at CES this week, videos are being shared of a new holographic Mario that uses AI to answer a variety of questions. It’s unclear as to where exactly this would be used, if it ever would be, but the Target logo in the bottom left suggests it could appear in stores to help shoppers.
Check out the live demonstration below, where Mario helps Twitter User Greggory with buying video games and eating healthier. Seeing as he didn’t recommend any mushrooms, the algorithm must have been trained on Chris Pratt’s rendition of the character…
Greggory promises to capture more footage of our new Italian overlords soon enough, so stay tuned.
There’s no word as to whether Nintendo themselves are involved in this project. However, it seems unlikely that they at the very least didn’t give the ok to use Mario’s likeness in this demonstration. The project is clearly still in development, with the voice especially needing some work. That being said, I don’t hate this, especially if it can get to the point where it gives us a good representation of Mario. At the very least it could lead to some funny encounters, similar to the one above.
UPDATE: Proto, the company behind this experiment, has confirmed to Kotaku that Nintendo didn’t sign off on the use of Mario. A Proto rep stated that, “AARP and Nintendo were not involved in the inadvertent showing today. The fact that so many gamers of the world have taken notice shows that they are the best fans in the world and we salute them.”
Mario vs. Donkey Kong "Pieces of the Puzzle" Trailer Shared, New Content Detailed
A puzzling amount of new content!
A new trailer for Mario vs. Donkey Kong just dropped! This remake of the classic game features over 130 levels, a two player mode, 2 new worlds and plenty of new modes to check out! Take a look at the full press release below for all the new information!
New game modes! More levels! Increased challenges! Not getting along has never been this much fun.
The rivalry between Mario and Donkey Kong keeps getting bigger – and just when you think you’ve found every key, solved every puzzle and accounted for every stolen Mini-Mario, new discoveries await. The Mario vs. Donkey Kong game for the Nintendo Switch system is launching on Feb. 16.
This enhanced version of Mario vs. Donkey Kong offers over 130 levels and Two-Player Mode that helps you (and your friends) tackle challenges in all new ways. Also new to this version of the game are Merry Mini-Land and Slippery Summit – two worlds full of new enemies and level themes with distinct play mechanics to keep you on your toes. And if your toes are up for it, you can unlock Plus Levels and Expert Levels as you play the game to further ramp up the mayhem with new gameplay wrinkles or added challenges.
Once you think you’ve mastered all the levels, you now have the chance to play against your toughest opponent: Yourself. Mario vs. Donkey Kong will be adding a Time Attack feature so players can take turns raising their personal bar.
Of course, it’s not all a competition. Mario vs. Donkey Kong is bringing two new playing styles to the game: Casual and Classic. Play the original game in its original form in Classic or give yourself a break and tone down the challenge a bit in Casual – you’ll get the same levels, just slightly less punishing and with a few more chances for “do overs.” Remember, keep your friends close, and your frenemies closer!
